How To Give Your Home Business A Quick Start By Effectively Networking
There’s nothing like a little networking to give your home business a quick start. Simply try using some of these tips and customize them to meet your specific situation and see what happens!
1. Prepare an elevator speech, memorize it and keep a copy handy with your business cards for reference. It could just be one sentence that sums up what you do, but make a real effort to keep it well under 30 seconds.
2. When you launch a new product or service, let others know about it in batches. In other words instead of having everyone potentially overloading your sytems, spread out your prospective sales with maybe new clients getting the first notification, then existing clients, then past clients.
Each time you announce your home business product or service to a new group, add in something a little different. Possibly offering a variety of options for a free gift with each purchase, just so no one feels left out. This way you get to test your marketing efforts as well as limit the possibilites of overloading your home business systems.
For example, if everyone rushes to your website and it doesn’t load, you can fix the issues before announcing your promotion to a larger group.
4. When talking with others, avoid using sentences that start with the word I. Ask about the other person and listen. Too many people get caught up in themselves and don’t even ask. So simply ask and then simply listen!
5. When you’re networking, don't put someone on the spot and ask for the sale right there. Instead ask the person how he or she would prefer to be contacted later about what your home business has to offer them and then exchange contact information or business cards.
6. Focus on developing rapport and building relationships. Treat others how you’d like to be treated. As an example, if someone asks for work and you don't have any, try to get them a referral, if not a person, at least a forum where they can post. Always be kind and return any form of communication promptly. Don’t let people hang for days and weeks on end. You wouldn’t want that to happen with your communications if they were important to you.
7. Be a friend to make a friend. Do what you say. Be trustworthy and honest and openly share resources.
8. Continuously grow your relationships and networking group. One follow up call or email is not all there is to networking. It’s an on going process. Share news, seek referrals, give back to the network with referrals of your own, etc. Get off the net and mail a postcard or make a phone call. Reach out.
Admittedly, these are only a handful of tips. You can easily find more on the Internet and print all of them out to keep in a handy folder to take along to events. Then look them over briefly before you go anywhere that you intend to be meeting others, and give your home based business a quick start by using networking!
