Tips And Strategies For Effectively Promoting Your Home Business When Money Is Tight.
All home businesses go through times when the money to spend for marketing is virtually non-existent and unfortunately these are usually the same times when getting out there and letting people know about you and what your business has to offer them, is most important.
So you can tend to get frustrated at how expensive it can be to effectively advertise in conventional media resources.
Maybe you’ve even tried running several small ads with little or no response.
It’s time to face facts and realize that mainstream conventional advertising often doesn’t cater to the specific needs of home business entrepreneurs.
So how can you best market your home business effectively and inexpensively?
Here are four simple and inexpensive ideas for you to consider.
Pass Out Leaflets, Brochures or Business Cards
Depending on the type of business or service you’re involved with, you could put together a simple leaflet or brochure and get them into the hands of your potential customers.
One way to do this is by hiring neighborhood teenagers or college students and have them hand your information or offer to passers by at heavy traffic locations.
But be sure to instruct them on how you would like them to present your leaflet or brochure.
Ask Other Business Owners For Advice
If your business provides services or products to other businesses then why not go see or call other business owners and ask them about the ways they promote there businesses and if they would have any ideas or suggestions you could use to promote yours.
This will also give you an opportunity to explain your service or product, but don’t handle the situation as a sales call but rather a request for their business help and expertise.
They might not have time to speak with you right then, but you can always leave them or mail a brochure and ask them to look it over and ask them if it would be alright to contact them at a more convenient time.
Wait a couple of days and then call them or stop by to follow up.
You never know, they might have some great ideas for you, know of someone looking for exactly what you have to offer, or even need your service or product themselves.
Always keep in mind that no matter the results of that specific encounter, you have the potential to gain valuable knowledge that you can use in future promotional efforts for your home business and you have at the very least made someone else aware of you and your business.
Put Together A Small Direct Mail Campaign
Using the brochure or leaflet from the above example you could put together a small mailing list of potential clients and mail your brochure to that list.
When using this method it is always more effective if you address the mailing piece by hand and even if more costly, put a first class stamp on the envelope.
An added plus would be to put a small hand written personal notewith your brochure, especially if you know them personally or have recently read about or heard something special about them.
Hand Out Free Gifts
You could hand out free balloons, pens or some other usable gift with your advertising on them.
I have a friend who has a part time home business as a clown for parties, church functions and the like.
If he were to dress in his costume and hand out free balloons to kids at the mall or some other heavy traffic area he’d probably shoot his business through the roof.
Heck, the kids would have something to distract them while the parents are shopping and assuming the balloon has your advertising message on it then you’ll not only get the message out to their parents but you’ll have numerous kids walking in a high traffic area with your floating billboard for hours.
The bottom line is to get your business maximum exposure at minimum cost and there are virtually endless ways to make this happen.
Let your imagination run wild and have some fun with it.
